What To Expect After Your First Chemical Peel

Chemical Peel treatment | Resurgence Wellness in Arlington, TX

So you’ve just got your first Chemical Peel and need some tips for proper aftercare! Or maybe you’re thinking about getting a Chemical Peel and want to know what happens after you leave the medspa.

Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Chemical Peels are great for all skin types and can help with a number of skin conditions and issues such as:

  • Acne & Acne Scarring
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Oily skin
  • Sun damage
  • Aging skin conditions

All too often, we ONLY talk about the benefits of Chemical Peels, but we never really discuss what happens AFTER the treatment is completed. Truth be told, the magic happens in the days after you receive your Chemical Peel because that’s when the body starts to heal and rejuvenate!

So let’s start from the beginning and discuss what to expect after your first Chemical Peel.

Day 1: Immediately After Treatment

Because acids are used in the Chemical Peel treatment process, your skin is going to be extremely sensitive and most likely red and tender.

Even though you might expect your skin to start peeling immediately, it won’t happen for a couple of days.

After your treatment, you should avoid direct sunlight and not apply any makeup during the healing process. Your skin is more prone to sunburn, UV damage and infections, and issues brought on by the cosmetic application.

Day 2-6: The Peeling Process

Now that your skin has had time to process the treatment, you might experience flaking skin, breakouts, inflammation, dryness, irritation, and more noticeable imperfections or discolorations.

Do not worry; this is typical for Chemical Peels. Your skin is reacting to the peel and is attempting to heal itself. This is the first stage of the healing process.

Remember, do not pick or pull at the flaking skin or pop any pimples. Let your skin and body do their job on their own!

Day 7+: Glowing, Replenished Skin

For those who received a light chemical peel, you may start seeing the results earlier than those who received a heavier peel. This is because it can take up to 15 days for the body and skin to regenerate and heal.

It’s important to note that not everyone will follow this exact timeline. Some may heal quicker than others, and some may take longer for the skin to heal.

Regardless of your timeline, once you go through the healing and peeling process, you should find smooth, healthy, clear skin has appeared.

To keep up with the results of your peel, stay hydrated, wear sunscreen daily and keep your skin moisturized.
