You’ve done it all: spin class, hot yoga, 5k’s, and more. You’ve done it all, but some of that stubborn fat is still clinging on for dear life.

That stubborn fat is called subcutaneous fat. Unfortunately, it’s the hardest type of fat in our bodies to eliminate, no matter how much kale we eat or HIIT classes we attend.

So now you’re looking into aesthetic treatments to help you look as good as you feel!

While browsing the internet, you’ve found different options and have come across liposuction and CoolSculpting treatments, which are forms of body sculpting. But what is body sculpting? Body sculpting is an umbrella term for cosmetic procedures that shape and contour the body.

Liposuction has been a household name because of its wild popularity since its inception in the late 70s. Now, It’s now the most common cosmetic procedure on the market.

But what about CoolSculpting? In recent years cryo-therapy or cold temperature therapy has seen a rise in popularity as well!

The two treatments are completely different but achieve the same goal: Fat elimination and reduction.

At Resurgence Wellness, we believe in educating our clients and giving them the most up-to-date information on treatments, therapies, and technology. In past articles, we’ve discussed the benefits of chemical peels, facials and how personalized medicine can benefit you most recently.

Today, we will break down the difference between liposuction and CoolSculpting to help you understand which treatment is best for your needs!

Ready? Let’s go!

One Goal – Different Processes

Liposuction and CoolSculpting both involve eliminating subcutaneous fat in the body.

CoolSclupting uses Cryolipolysis, or cold therapy, to freeze away fat cells until they die and are expelled by the body’s lymphatic system.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure involving a cannula or small suctioning tube inserted under the skin to vacuum the fat out of the body.

The process – What to Expect

Both treatments give clients satisfying results and allow them to live confidently. However, CoolScultping is non-invasive while liposuction is invasive, which can make the most difference when deciding between the two treatments.

CoolSculpting

Here is how Coolsculpting works. When you arrive for your CoolSculpting treatment, you will be lying down, and your medical provider will place the applicator on your body.

It will go through different processes as it starts the freezing process. You may feel some tugging, pulling, tingling, and slight cramping on the area, but as the freezing process continues, the site will become numb.

It can take 1-3 hours to complete, and you’ll be able to resume normal daily activities after the treatment is completed.

Your medical provider will consult with you on how many treatments you need to see the maximum results. If the treatments are completed, you can see a 25% fat reduction and an average of 5 inches lost in the treated area.

The results are gradual and take up to 3 months after the last treatments to see the final results.

It is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment for eliminating fat cells and works well on:

  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Back bulge and bra area
  • Double chin
  • Love handles and flanks
  • Male chest (Pseudogynecomastia)
  • Stomach
  • Thighs
  • Under buttocks (Banana Roll)

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical cosmetic procedure that requires you to be under anesthetic for the treatment.

A small incision will be made, and a cannula will be inserted under the skin and into the subcutaneous fat layer.

Your medical provider will suction out the fat and shape your body in the process. Shaping is essential because when you remove a large area of fat, your body shape will change. An experienced surgeon will sculpt your body so that it has a natural curve and contour.

Areas for Liposuction include:

  • Abdomen
  • Waist
  • Back
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Lower legs
  • Knees
  • Upper arms
  • The area under the chin
  • Neck
  • Face
  • Chest

Even though liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure, you should expect to be in recovery for several days up to a week.

You’ll notice a difference right away, but you may not see the full results for several months due to swelling and bruising around the site.

Choosing between CoolSculpting vs Liposuction

If you want to lose a few inches and get rid of stubborn fat, CoolSculpting is the way to go! It is non-invasive compared to Liposuction that requires surgery, and leaves you with great results after your treatment plan is completed!

If you are looking to lose fat in a large area and want to re-shape your body during surgery, liposuction is an option you should look into.

You should always consult with a medical provider before scheduling ANY cosmetic or aesthetic treatment.  They will give you options during your consultation based on your lifestyle, genetics, allergies, and more. The best option will always be the safest option!
