What You May Not Know About Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet Rich Plasma treatment | Resurgence Wellness in Arlington, TX

We often talk about treatments that sound like they belong in a chemistry class, and today’s treatment is no different.  We believe in and enjoy educating our current and future patients on every treatment we offer here at Resurgence Wellness so that they can understand the process, benefits, and sometimes, the reason behind the name!

Today we will be talking about Platelet Rich Plasma.  This revolutionary treatment is a form of Regenerative Medicine that has become more and more popular over the last several years. Platelet Rich Plasma is unlike any other treatment you’ve ever received because it uses your blood to treat skin conditions, hair loss, and more!

Let’s dive in and talk about a few things you might not know about Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet Rich Plasma, defined by Johns Hopkins Medicine, “Consists of two elements: plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets, a type of blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body.”

When a patient comes into our medspa for a PRP treatment, we draw their own blood and place it into a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma.

Platelet Rich Plasma can promote healing by stimulating the growth of new cells, collagen, and the body’s natural healing process.

One of the most significant benefits of receiving a PRP treatment is that it has a very low risk since it uses the patient’s own blood for the treatment! It is safe, effective, and helps to reduce swelling and discomfort! Those who have sensitivities and allergies to other ingredients and treatments will find that this treatment greatly benefits them!

Treatment Process

As stated above, when you come in for your treatment, a medical professional will draw blood and separate the formula used in your treatment.

You will then have a topical numbing or anesthetic applied to the treatment area before the injection.

As a minimally invasive procedure, your medical professional will use a microscopic needle to inject the PRP into the area of concern. Then, depending on the location, you can be in and out of the office in as little as an hour!

Depending on what is being treated, you will most likely need several treatments spread a couple of weeks apart.  However, once your treatment plan has been completed, you will enjoy long-term results lasting 12-18 months or longer!

What Does PRP Help With?

Because PRP is a natural healing treatment, it is very versatile in helping many conditions! It is widely revered to help with joint, tendon, and muscle injuries, as well as post-surgical healing and osteoarthritis. In addition, the anti-inflammatory properties with the added healing benefits give patients dealing with pain and swelling much-needed relief.

Here at our medspa, we use PRP in facials and hair rejuvenation treatments.

PRP Facial

A PRP Facial, also known as a “Vampire Facial,” is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments you can receive at a medspa today! Your aesthetic professional will make tiny injections into the skin with a microscopic needle filled with PRP during the process.

It doesn’t hurt because your face will be cleansed, and then a thin layer of anesthetic will be applied before the injections.

Benefits of a Vampire Facial include:

  • Stimulation of collagen and elastin
  • Promotion of natural healing
  • Improvement of moisture retention
  • Tighten and firm skin
  • Reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Enhance skin tone and texture

When you’ve reached the desired result after several treatments, you will want to come in for maintenance and replenishment treatments about two times a year!

Hair Restoration

If you are experiencing thinning hair or male pattern baldness, PRP treatments can help rejuvenate the hair growth process and prevent hair loss, leaving you with thicker, fuller hair!

Like a PRP facial, a PRP hair restoration treatment uses a tiny needle injected into the scalp in the areas of concern.  You will have an anesthetic applied, and once that has set, the treatment will begin.  The treatment can last about an hour, and you will need several treatments to see the final results!
